SKYWARN & NOAA Weather


What is SKYWARN? SKYWARN is the National Weather Service (NWS) program of trained volunteer severe weather spotters. SKYWARN Spotters support their local community and government by providing the NWS and there local emergency managers with timely and accurate severe weather reports. These reports, when integrated with modern NWS technology, are used to inform commmunities of the proper actions to take as severe weather threatens.

Who is NOAA? NOAA is the National Oceanic and Atmosphereic Administration. NOAA History is an intrinsic part of the history of the United States and the development of its science and commercial infrastructure. The ancestor agencies of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration include the United States Coast Survey established in 1807, the United States Weather Bureau established in 1870, and the United States Commission of Fish and Fisheries established in 1871. NOAA Weather is a service offered by the National Weather Service, which falls under NOAA. NOAA Weather is a nationwide network of radio stations that broadcast continious weather information directly from a local National Weather Service office (ours is Greenville, Spartenburg). NOAA Weather broadcasts NWS warnings, watches, forecasts and other information 24 hours a day and can be monitored on the following frequencies depending on your location:
